Of Names and Origins

Chapter 1

The lights flickered as the man continued to stare at the crystal. It didn’t really bother him, nor did the nauseating smell of death. To him, all that mattered was her. Glorious her.

“It’s futile.” A long slender woman, dressed in a long flowing robe marked with a vaguely official insignia. She emerged from behind the pillar, her heels clattering on the marble floor before coming to a halt beside the altar. Her face was lined deeply and prematurely, stress showing itself around her eyes. The grayish hair around the face simply accentuated the fact that she looked tired, prematurely aged. “Can’t you see that this is just making it harder for yourself?”

He remained silent, not even turning to acknowledge the newcomer. All his attention was fixated on the child suspended in the transparent emerald liquid. Reaching out his hand as if to touch her, he flinched when his steepled fingers only met the cold lattice. He hated the feeling, but it was as close as he could get.

A sigh issued from behind him. “You never learn, do you? She’s not going to recover anytime soon. The doctors were useless and we couldn’t really hel-“

“Tzetsk’uy!” The man whipped around, slamming his hand on the granite wall. “It’s only because you people didn’t care and never bothered! To make use of all of them like that, were decency and empathy were ever the company’s objectives?!”

“Be reasonable.” She snapped, a neat cut through the man’s tirade. “You know what had to be done, and you yourself understood what the stakes were.” She paused, hesitating to continue. “Besides, don’t you think that what you’re feeling for her right now isn’t exactly… normal?”

“I…” With no answer to give, he turned his face towards the wide array of equipment behind, his face hidden. Her words had hit him like a sledgehammer. Was it… really wrong? He did not know. A heavy silence fell on the dim room, the only movement being the flickering crystals.

“Isn’t it?” The gaunt man murmured after some time.

“Look, I know she means a lot to you bu-“

yea! back from camp! hahas it was quite fun lah, except for sleeping in the tent. damn cold cos my place is beside the door... then the tent so bloody small.... oh and my mp3 kenna water then spoil... lucky is my spare one, and lucky my earphone never spoil... The bamboo rafting was damn fun lah, me and yong siang go together, then see all those ppl falling like nothing... dunno why the hell so many people fall lah, not that hard to balance wat... only a few ppl nvr fall... keith and sam, the 2 jasons... dunno hu else lah... then bernard going to fall liao then go grab my leg.... lols lucky nvr kenna pull down :) oh and climbing the mountain damn fun oso, especially going down. must use rope alot. then natas bloody pro sia jump down like nothing liddat. fareez oso try to jump but he jump no so style lah hahas. third day rain like crap, then at nite everyone sleep in MPH. we lucky cos can sleep in the canteen. less mosquitoes. but damn bloody cold cos got one damn bloody big fan there blowing at me... everytime it turn towards me i shiver like hell... whole night shivering... only slept abit... the bus back was damn screwed... air con spoil.... damn hot... ok thats all. going to post a few photos on flickr...

w00ts i got new earphones!!!!! lols damn happy with it :) ok i got nothing better to do today so i'll do a quick review of it...

er so its the creative ep-350 in ear earphones. the noise isolation is damn good but u hav to push it in quite a lot lols. sound quality is not bad, and the bass is damn good. can compare with my philips headphones, which are like 10 times bigger :) i just got it so nothing much to write, but i jus wanna say its damn good :)

ok today school quite boring lah, chinese lesson jus hear tt guy tok... he everytime one day scold us then next day come back say he'll try to work with us and all that crap.... his lesson damn boring lah... then after that got history. today quite slack, jus hear thiru tok... not much to copy.... then after recess was E PO L!!!!! lols we do that cheer when he walk in and he was lyk "wat the....." lols his lesson even more slack jus go thru some crap then rearrange table for exam and then slack. see yong siang and chinaboy argue damn funny sia...

woohoo 28th is sch holiday!!!! lols.... this morning assembly got all the standard day-after-o-level-results-come-out-crap... everyone shouting half day lols. end up got full day xD... ok sunday had swimming time trial again. 3 events in a day. can die.... anyway i fucked up the 50m breaststroke... :( 100m breast and 50m free was ok... nic did 30secs for 50m free... pro sia... i did 35secs.... at least got 3rd in that heat. oh and 50m breaststroke i was last... bloody hell... lost to bejamin and mitchell by a few seconds... sian...

ok so the first week of sec 3 just passed... so far still ok, homework not too crazy... er friday last 3 periods was english and our teacher just told us to do the bloody commonwealth essay then dissapear... oh and he said he will check whether everyone finish before can go home.... end up, he wasn't back by end of school and we just zhao xD good thing abt 5th story is not so many teacher just randomly walk pass and check. ok finally decided to post again... first day of school sucks, some of e teachers suck, others so~so... sian... holidays were kinda boring so wont talk much abt tt... er... yesterday went for swimming time trial. 100m free. I next week got 3 events sia... sian... er so my timing improve by 14secs from the last time i took at tp. now 1.20.... that bloody eugene in the same line-up as me... wtf?!... of course he trashed everyone... i was second, then after tt dun noe liao... nic was swimming with mitchell and JONGER!!!! lols... jonger won, and nic won mitchell... ok next week will have 50m breast which is probably my favourite, 50m free which i nvr really tried b4, and 100m breast which will kill me. sian... 3 in a day can die sia... nic is doing 200m free so i kinda pity him lols.

ok about the holidays the most fun was probably going to vietnam. two families together. shiok:) can anyhow litter there... so good... er... ok and when we got back i did a crazy lot of mountain biking at tampines mountain bike trail. wow. long name. anyone can join me? go alone getting boring...

ok abt sch, the new class abit screwed up. berwin monitor again... oh but ms sharma teaching us geog :) woots wont fail geog anymore lols. our chem teacher dissapeared today so dun really noe him... math teacher is ok i guess, but the homework more crazy than david lee sia.... hell lot of math hw today, and must put in the pigeon hole by 7.20 tmr.... wtf?!... ok nothing more liao.... this is probably my longest post ever xD

ok saturday went to singtel (tampines mall) to get my phone(s) fixed... then some service fella go tell me go eastpoint for samsung service. go there liao then cannot find the damn shop. end up go home check, it was at century square, which is like right beside tampines mall... sianz... then after that got swimming which was damn bloody tiring... then coach talk so much theory... then everyone standing there shivering like nobodies business... hiaz... wah lao go cat b die liao sia... hiaz... oh and coach wanted me and nic to join some competition but we were overage! lols in the face xD

then today that stupid fox go make us stay until 2.50, then we say all the other classes all going then she say "they are not supposed to go"... wtf... then go confirm with their teacher lah lazy bugger... like we dun hav enough work to do, must 1hr of our time sitting in the class talking...... thats all lah mus go chiong project liaoz... :(

ok so today went to pulau ubin wit jia hao, aj, jin xiang, and his dad lols :) we go rent bike(bloody hell $8 sia... jia hao even better $10) then i laugh at jia hao cos his more ex but no back suspension hehe. then after that it started raining... if me and jia hao were alone like last time then confirm continue one lor, but those noobs wanted to stop so what to do... then jin xiang father go buy chrysanthemum tea for some random reason, and we took damn long to finish cos it was like boiling hot... then jia hao saw all the ppl riding off and got pissed,then ask everyone hurry up, then jin xiang's father got slightlfy pissed at jin xiang cos he keep playing some random handphone game lols... so bo liao... aj oso... ok then when we finished the bloody tea finally we jus keep cycling lor... got some parts quite fun lah, esp coming back from that wierd ulu trail at the temple... cos going there i got stuck in the bloody mus so got quite pissed lah so when going back i jus chiong like hell. so shiok :) then someone's whining jus made me more pissed so i chiong even faster hehe :) oh and i kept laughing at jia hao cos he dun noe how to slide a bike :) haha noob :) so i keep sliding in front of him :) sliding is so fun xD. k to be fair he did manage to do it afterwards lah. erm... i shall not elaborate on wat happened after we got back xD

yesterday swimming quite fun lar, use the water polo pool. do relay... then i got the worst bloody team, so last every single bloody time :( and jordan and elizabeth same team lah, then their other 2 ppl all can swim quite well, confirm win one lah... next time put nic and me in same team then come race agian lah lols :) hiaz end of next month mus go cat B liao... see their training so hard sia, the coach so fierce somemore... hiaz next month mus train damn hard liao, if not go over will die sia...

ok so every electronic thing that i use seems to spoil damn fast and for no reason lor, only sony ericsson phones and my apple iPod are still working... got a phone from a certain US brand, then spoil in 1 month. then got another korean phone(dun say brand, later sue me sia lols) and one day the bloody centre button stopped working. and spoil when i was i the middle of pulau ubin somemore... haix... maybe iPhone won't spoil(my birthday coming soon *wink*wink* birthday present?) lols...

Today quite fun lah, in class azmi connect his bloody Macbook to the projector and started to play Crysis :) any com that can run Crysis and not lag is not bad lah so... hiaz i'm jealous... lols then Chuan Yuan connect his iPod to the class speakers and blast music... so shiok :) we ordered Mac but no one ate cos everyone busy playing somewhere else, so end up guess who finished it all :) wasted our money sia... esp. melvin's 50 dollars...

sian dis morning had chem SPA... i did extra :( supposed to do two tests per chemical(one for acid one for alkaline) then i go do two for acid and two for alkaline... lucky still can finish in time... i think i screwed up some of the ammonium tests though... hiaz... then recess i wanted to play table tennis but forgot to bring PE shirt... end up still go play lols, then a prefect came and wanted to confiscate our bats but one guy damn skill lah, he started talking to the prefect and walk slowly away frm the table tennis area :) so prefect just went away lols... so lame rite...

oh and ms yong found out abt ppl using her account for WiFi oso... so chew and jon seah kenna lols :) and fox said(and sol backed her up) that everyone had their own account but thats bullshit cos we tried and it doesn't work. sol said that it only works in "certain places and certain times" -_-||| so lame... hiaz...

Most innovative use of a stolen supermarket trolley

Saw this bicycle parked outside the nearby 4D shop when I went to the bike shop near my office. The supermarket trolley was tied rather loosely with a bungie cord to the rack. According to a friend who saw it before me, the rider got horned at a few times as his makeshift trailer swung all over the place as he rode to the lottery shop.

Pull out the child seat on the trolley and voila! Baby carrier!

Ok to add on to jus now's post, we complained to fox that all our work was on the opws system and since its down all our work is gone, then she jus said a whole lot of nonsense that basically meant that its not her responsibility. look, it may not be your damn responsibility, but u could at least make the slightest effort to ask the IT dept what the heck is going on cos the whole class is screwed cos of this. and all she can do is push blame. its always someone else's fault, its not ur responsibility. that time other classes knew wat was going to be tested for lit, but we didn't. so, we studied the whole bloody Macbeth book, and they studied 3 paragraphs, and when we told her, she just started to change the topic, ask us whether we were sure of that, and where we got the information blah blah blah... couldn't even be bothered to find out why the other classes knew... I think she cocked up and jus didn;t want to admit it lah... sian... So Fox, please, before blaming others, look in the damn mirror.

okay today damn sian lah PE i thought at first that i failed my sit and reach but in the end i found that i actually passed by 2 cm lols... didn'nt feel like playing soccer so decided to jus look at all the ppl trying to pass standing broadjump lols... timo jump so funny... b4 he go 4 the test he was practicing on one of the spare mat thingys so i jump beside him without the mat and i still trashed him up lols... got earthquake when he landed... then when he went for the actual test everyone "zhao" cos scared later szechuan again lols... no lah... oh and trying to help brennan pass was damn fun oso... ask him jump higher he still nvr listen hiaz... then when he took the test mr amir put a stool on the mat and ask him to jump over it(trying to make him jump high) but that bloody genius jumped over it lols... erm then we went up early cos need to take some school experience survey -_-||| every single discipline related question i put disagree lols... "do teachers explain the cause for punishment?" no... lols... and sometimes the reasons ppl kenna oso damn lame... like today hazwan's handphones kenna confiscated in the morning cos it was on, and russell's one oso kenna cos he touched hazwan's handphone when it was on... genius...

yay! ms sharma came back to teach us geog! so shiok! but for a few lessons only lah so sad... okay anyway today chem damn sian cos last nite i waited until 12am for some ppl to send me their damn work and then the next day they come tell me they put in their thumbdrive. and worst still someone nvr do at all... so pro... so i passed seperately to mr wong and he got quite pissed(dunno whether at me or shaun) and then when he tried to open to file in my CD, cannot open cos he dun hav office 2007. bloody hell... so used brennan's com to convert, add shaun's stuff, and in the end no bloody time to present... hiaz... okay anyway during recess-chinese something happened to someone... won't elaborate... oh and ryan pointed out a direct link between someone's actions and the school diary's advice for dealing with stress-_-|||... and chinese lesson me, ryan, ah boy, and timo were chased out cos we nvr do zuo ye. i mean i was absent when she gave back the bloody thing and i had no idea where it was so how the heck do u expect me to do the fucking exercise?! hiaz nvm... so anyway when we were outside timo started juggling his markers(-_-||| lols) and then started "accidentally" thowing them randomly in i and ryan's direction, so ryan grabbed his marker, and timo grabbed my correction tape. the thing is, he needed to marker for art later. i didn't need the correction tape cos i have a frixion pen. pure genius, timo. so anyway i jus held up my swiss army knife, nvr even take out of the leather cover, and he was like"oh shit i keep forgetting u hav that knife" lols... after sch went to eastpoint to help ryan buy thumbdrive cos apparantly he "damn tired"... now i oso damn tired... okay nothing more to write liao bb :)

lols sch com so laggy... we went to com lab for chinese lesson, then spent 15mins waiting for the damn com to jus start up, and then we opened microsoft word and it lagged for 5 mins. the last 10mins was spent trying to go to our mail so we could email watever work we did to ourself and continue doing at home. So that left 5 mins for us to do work... amazing... music was damn stupid, watching vickn*sh and b*rry struggling to clap.

Sony Ericsson K770i Cyber-shot Review

The Sony Ericsson K770i Cyber-shot might be branded as a Cyber-shot camera phone, but there's more to this handset than just its ability to take pretty pictures -- it also has a great music player and a whole load of other neat features.

It's available for free on 3 and some contracts or for around £200 as a pay as you go or SIM-free phone.

Strengths
Our K770i was supplied by 3 so it came in the striking purple colour scheme which is exclusive to that network, but it has to be said that purple or not, this is a great looking handset. The metallic strip keypad looks the business and the phone feels beautifully proportioned in your hand.

As this is a Cyber-shot phone, you'd expect the camera to be better than the usual mobile phone fare. Thankfully, it doesn't disappoint. You can activate the 3.2-megapixel snapper by either sliding open the lens cover on the rear of the phone or by pressing the shutter button on the right hand edge of the phone.

The camera has an LED flash and micro mirror for taking self portraits and the snaps it takes are very good, although not quite up to the level of the more expensive K850i. Nevertheless, most people will find they're more than good enough to be printed as glossy snaps. We also love the 'Photo fix' application that you can use to touch up your photos directly on the phone.

Sony Ericsson currently seems to have music on mobiles licked, so it's no surprise to find that the K770i is a very accomplished music machine. It sports a similar music player to that found on the Walkman phones so it's incredibly easy to use and the sound quality can't be faulted thanks to the thunderous bass, pleasing mid range and crisp high frequencies.

The phone's call quality and reception were also excellent and the battery life is good too. You can expect to get around 10 hours of talk time out of it and it'll keep ticking over on standby for around 16 days.

Weaknesses
The camera takes good shots, but we can't help thinking that Sony could have pushed the boat out further and equipped it with a Carl Zeiss lens and xenon flash like those used on the higher-end K850i.

Also, although the headphones supplied in the box are pretty decent, they're not as good as the sound-isolating ones you get with the Walkman branded handsets. The phone isn't supplied with a headphone adaptor either, so you can't easily swap them for your own set of cans. And if you really want to use the phone for music, then you'll need to invest in a larger memory card because the handset is only supplied with a 256MB M2 Memory Stick.

Conclusion
The K770i may not match Sony Ericsson's top of the range Cyber-shot or Walkman phones blow for blow when it comes to features, but as an overall package this handset is hard to beat. It looks great, is easy to use, doesn't cost the earth at £200 SIM-free or pay as you go, while it's free on 3 and some other contracts and is an impressive all rounder. What more could you want?

okay i no time to post yesterday so i would make up for it now

school was nothin much, except we were supposed to release early cos of sec 4 listening test, but our form teacher went to "discuss" the matter with mr maran and we could not finish early. Then when we were walking past the canteen, Mr Chia shouted at us cos he tot we all whole class secretly stay back or something... -_-' so anyway after that went to roxy square to do filming for the geog project(which we only found out abt when the form teacher told us abt it). jin xiang was the host of the "show" and we spent 1hr walking around roxy square filming random crap. After that went to pp arcade with ryan and play time crisis 4 again... we were trying to complete it but we nvr even got past stage 1 hiaz... after that we played some random star wars racing game where i TRASHED ryan 2/2 :) went for maths tution after that. nothing much to talk abt, jus got alot of hw :(

Today

spent most of the time during geog lesson oogling somebody's macbook pro, and watching that somebody playing dad n me-_-'. then got art, which was nothing much, and then went with anjie to pass up home econs crap. we had to patch up for some ppl(yes u vicknesh) cos they forgot to add hair to their damn puppet. then i help anjie re-sew his cos his sewing too messy... after that went home to slack. That's all...

today after sch stay back 2 play table tennis 4 awhile, then had to go home to change b4 going out to cut hair. i didnt want to cut, but my mum forced me to... anyway the aunty cut until dmn short lor... now look dmn ugly... after that went TM buy jeans and some crap red shirt 4 tmr. i normally dun wear red, but the alternative was sch uniform and since i'll probably go parkway with my frens after sch i decided to tahan jus dis once...

wah lao this few days dmn sian sia... some bugger stealing things in the class. and our clas kenna OM Chia cos of that somemore... i have learnt from the mistakes of ryan and others, and i will not name anyone, but its jus damn bloody stupid lah... somebody lost his chinese e-dic and said someone stole it. after a few more thefts, teacher got fed up and asked us to let the person infront check our bag. then that somebody found his e-dic in his own bag. dots...

Today, during the last period of the day, we had a fire drill. That was also the first time I had used the new field and I have to say, I was a little disappointed. The new field is much hotter then the old(natural) field and that made it very uncomfortable for us to wait there. That being said, running on the new field is very enjoyable as it is now very springy. As such, I think that many people will enjoy playing on the new field as it can be used in all weather conditions.

After school, I went to the Air-rifle range as I wanted to transfer from my present CCA, volleyball, to air-rifle. There were also a few Sec 1s who wanted to join air-rifle present. We had to wait for the teacher in charge to arrive before we could start the trials. Unfortunately, I could not enter the CCA as I had not done well enough in the trials.

Today was a Tuesday. I tend to dislike Tuesdays, maybe because of the lessons, or maybe because of the lack of activities after school. Since I want to change my CCA, I had to look for Mr Lee, the HOD for CCA, and ask him for a form needed to request a change a CCA. So after school, I went to the PE Office to look for him, but he wasn't there. I decided to have my lunch, finish my homework, and check if he was in. I spent he next few hours doing our mathematics homework with Jin Xiang and when we finally finished the pile of work assigned to us by our Math teacher, it was about 5.30. I decided to look for Mr Lee in the PE office again, nut he still wasn't there. I decided that there was no point waiting any longer as it was already very late, and returned home.

Today, school was not very eventful, we had a briefing on our OPW project at the end of the day and we suddenly realized that we were going to stay in our OPW groups for projects in other subjects such as History and Geography. It was then that we regretted our choice in group members. One member to be specific. Anyway, I recently joined a swimming club together with a friend of mine and I was looking forward to having a swim today to relax. Unfortunately, it rained heavily and we were not allowed to swim due to the lightning so we ended up doing physical exercises for an hour before the rain finally stopped and we were allowed to swim.
